Testimonials
Mark is the best teacher I’ve ever met. We worked on TOEFL for a year and a half. He is the biggest reason I was accepted by my dream school, UBC. Saori is also supportive and helpful. She helped me with my Japanese application essays.
I used to go to other English schools, but I didn’t feel comfortable with group lessons and my scores didn’t improve at all, so I asked Mark to accept me as his private student.
My first assignment was two essays. I still remember the large number of corrections Mark had made with a red pen. Mark told me to think about the readers and taught me how to write logical and clear essays. After a year of practicing, I wrote more than a hundred essays and I finally improved my TOEFL writing score from 18 to 27.
Mark analyzed my weaknesses and set the best plan for me. He can find the best difficulty of textbooks that suit me.
I enjoy talking with Mark. It is more like talking with a friend than a teacher. We have a similar point of view of international affairs, and he always tells a lot of things I didn’t know.
Mark also gives me advice when I’m depressed. He is a trustworthy person. My family environment is quite stressful, but I feel better after talking about it with Mark.
I believe that I am more mature and independent now. I’m really looking forward to my life at UBC.

If I hadn’t met Mark, I would’ve never got into my dream school.
When I first met him, my SAT and TOEFL scores were far behind the average acceptance score for my dream school. I didn’t even know how to study for a test. However, in just a year my SAT score went up by 200 points!! Mark really knew the best way to raise my score.
I was especially not doing well in history related texts in the Reading Section. He started giving homework to do research on historical events, read books, or share interesting news articles. This may not be a direct way to study for the SAT, but it really helped. One of the historical events he gave me for homework even came out on the actual exam! I don’t know how he was deciding my homework, but he really knows the effective method to raise scores for a test.
Mark wasn’t a teacher who just taught me testing methods. He also taught me how to view the world from different points of view. My theme for college application was focused on environmental issues, but Mark taught me life isn’t all about that. He introduced me to many interesting articles and books unrelated to my personal interest.
Mark is a great teacher and a great human being who believes in a student’s potential. To raise my test scores and to get accepted into my dream school, I had to solve lots of textbooks, do lots of reading, and write lots of essays. It was lots of work, but Mark’s kindness, patience, and funny jokes helped me get through everything. Most importantly, he taught me that studying can open up my world and that hard work will always be rewarded. With what I learned from Mark, I believe I would be able to overcome challenges that I will face in UC Berkeley.

I prepared for TOEFL and SAT with Mark and raised both scores significantly, so I was able to enter Sophia University FLA! It was my goal, so I'm really pleased that I was accepted. Without his help, I might not have gotten accepted.
